Polyurea FAQ

It's interesting to watch the videos I have seen on YouTube.  When you spray Polyurea, can you spray on extruded polystyrene?
We use insulated concrete forms, similar product, for our pond walls and then apply Polyurea directly to the wall.

I have a pool with a PVC liner that I would like to turn into a Koi pond.  Can you spray Polyurea over a PVC liner?
Polyurea liner won't adhere to PVC pools, it would be easier to replace the pool.

Do I need poured concrete, shotcrete or block walls in my pond in order for you to be able to spray Polyurea?  Can you spray over dirt?
If you don't want to use concrete or masonry, we will put down a layer of geotextile fabric and will spray over that.  We can't spray Polyurea directly onto a loose substrate since it comes out of the gun at ~2000 psi.

Can you spray directly onto concrete?
We apply a primer the day before the scheduled spray.  The primer fills in small holes and crevices.  It also makes a tighter bond between the Polyurea and the concrete to prevent any delamination.

Why type of conditions do you need in order to spray Polyurea?
The weather needs to by dry, with only a slight breeze.  The surface we are spraying on also needs to be dry.  Moisture will create bubbles and pinholes in the liner.

Is Polyurea safe for my Koi?
Polyurea is USDA rated for potable water.  It is better than a regular liner, since there are no folds or wrinkles with Polyurea spray liner, there are no trapped pockets of water that will harbor anaerobic bacteria.

How long does Polyurea take to set up?
Polyurea takes about 15 seconds to dry.  It can hold water in about 5 minutes and is completely cured in 24 hours.

Can you patch a hole in my rubber liner with Polyurea?
No we can't.  Polyurea won't adhere to a rubber liner.

Is Polyurea something that I can apply myself?
No, you need the equipment and professional training in order to spray Polyurea.
